The Theatre of Buildings is a project in which we explore the potential of showing contemporary art in unexpected architectural spaces. This 6 month project will support 47 artists working in installation, film, performance and 2 dimensional work. This overarching project features four exhibitions in four separate buildings. These include Collaborators 5: The Hand of the Artist (September 2018), Hammersmith Library Project (21st November-31st January 2019), Gracepoint Film Event (February 2019) and Greta Alfaro (March/April 2019).
21st November 2018 to 31st January 2019
Hammersmith Library, Shepherds Bush Road, London W6 7AT
Hammersmith Library was designed in 1905 by the architect Henry Hare. This handsome building with stained glass windows, pillars and fine details will host the works of 3 artists: Ambrosine Allen, Eilis Kirby and Rowena Hughes.
During January there will also be performances by two other artists. These are Annabel Other’s Bristol Art Library - see her short film below - and Elisabeth S. Clark’s Book Concerto.
In a refurbished 1930s cinema in North London we will show 6 artists’ films, all with an architectural theme.
A large-scale solo installation work by Alfaro, who is an alumnus of the RCA working in Spain and London.
