OUR STORY

ROAMING ROOM is an art space: we place contemporary art in dilapidated or unused buildings and invite artists to produce new works contextualised by the architecture, giving them the opportunity to present unusual imaginative projects. We are inspired by a 'Fluxus' sensibility, collaborating with artists to instigate compelling inspiring experiments. "Fortunately, somewhere between chance and mystery lies imagination, the only thing that protects our freedom, despite the fact that people keep trying to reduce it or kill it off altogether." - Luis Buñuel - "I'm an artist because I want to be free" Laurie Anderson        OUR HISTORY R O O M opened in Bristol in 2002 where it formed the annexe of a newly built custom made house. The initiative has now evolved and grown and become ROAMING ROOM, recently operating in Marylebone. This is a move away from conventional gallery spaces: our buildings are dormant - frequently in a raw state, due for redevelopment, and therefore have a history. Each space has been stripped of former layers, to expose the interior architecture at it’s simplest, whilst retaining an idea of memory and atmosphere. Here we offer a challenge to artists to intervene or engage with the space, from architectural intervention, installation, film, performance and other artistic disciplines.        EXHIBITIONS BEFORE 2012      ROOM moves to Marylebone to a dilapidated building 2012     ROOMARTSPACE in Rio De Janeiro at Museu do Acude.
